Amszterdam mindig jó ötlet. Jobb időben mintha az egész város kiköltözne az utcára: a csatornapartok és a város idilli parkjai azonnal megtelnek piknikező, kávézgató, sütögető polgárokkal és turistákkal: itt egyebek mellett legális a szabad téri barbecue is. Ha pedig kicsit rosszabbra fordul az idő, várnak a pompás – az elmúlt években teljesen felújított és 21. századi igényekre szabott – múzeumok, mint a Rijksmuseum vagy a Van Gogh Múzeum, az izgalmas modern galériák, a szebbnél szebb kis üzletek és persze a kihagyhatatlan virágpiac. Bár a holland konyha nem szolgál sok említésre méltóval, palacsintában nagyon jók; a híres hétvégi piacon, a Albert Cuypmarkton pedig még a frissen készült, ropogós stroopwafelt is megkóstolhatod. A város komoly kozmopolita hagyományainak köszönhetően pedig remek egzotikus éttermek és büfék, elegáns és trendi kávézók és bisztrók várnak a kizárólag Hollandiában elképzelhető coffee shopok mellett.
